There are some faces that can launch a thousand ships and then there are some faces that only a mother could love, but for the most part, very few faces are exactly identical – from a evolutionary standpoint this reflects diversity in the gene pool, makes recognition just a little bit easier and it makes you… well… you.

Cyber ExtruderThe mass market method of advertising has lost considerable strength over the last decade as Generation I, the internet generation, has shown increased allegiance to more personalized entertainment and conspicuous consumption. As the commercial once said, “have it your way” has become vogue, from cars, to computers, to cell phones- in a world overrun by mass market sameness, the next generation is responding to the idea of customization at rates that industry is hard pressed to stay on top of.

Poised to take advantage of this new market is the Newark, NJ based Cyber Extruder.

Cyber Extruder office at NJITFounded by Chief Technology Officer Dr. Tim Parr and Chief Operating Officer Jack Ives, Cyber Extruder is located on the campus grounds of NJIT.

Cyber Extruder is the creator and developer of the software packages, AvMaker (short for Avatar Maker) and Automesh that empower licensed users to create 3D images of their faces from 2D scanned photos that can be imported into the 3D animation program or console game engine of their preference.

Imagine playing the latest and greatest survival horror or FPS console videogame with a character that has your face instead of a generic identity that the game’s designers provide for you? Or suppose you need to hold a virtual meeting over the Internet and your business doesn’t have the facility for HD teleconferencing? With this software you could hold a virtual conference online where every participant looked like they do in real life.

What began as a quest to create a business around mechanical 3D head scanners has developed into a custom software system that has found applications not only as an iPhone App, but also in Security, Gaming, and Business and possibly venture into the medical/pharmaceutical market.
